CAPE Membership (Student)

CAPE is open to all who share our dedication to increasing social, educational and professional opportunities for Asian Pacifics in the entertainment industry. In addition to industry employees and executives, others from creative vocations (actors, writers, journalists, directors, artists) may join CAPE. Our Membership Committee reviews all applications and notifies qualified applicants of their acceptance.

Membership includes:

  • CAPE Foundation New Writers Awards (Sponsored by FOX)

    A prestigious writing competition for film and television.  Winners receive $4,000, the latest Final Draft writing software, a staged reading of their winning script, and meetings with top industry executives.  Past winners include Alice Wu, who wrote and directed her winning script, SAVING FACE (Sony Pictures Classics).
  • Executive Happy Hour (Sponsored by Time Warner)

    An intimate series of cocktail mixers geared toward established entertainment industry executives.

  • Casting Workshop (Sponsored by Disney/ABC)

    Immerses actors in a 2-day intensive workshop with Casting Directors, Showrunners, Producers, and Actors to explore the current state of diversity casting, what the networks and casting directors are looking for, and the do's and don't's of auditions.

  • CBS - CAPE TV Pitch Lab (Sponsored by CBS)

    Educates aspiring TV writers and producers on how to effectively pitch and sell a TV project over the course of a 3-night intensive workshop.

  • Asian Breakfast Club

    A series of intimate, informal roundtable discussions with such established professionals as screenwriter Iris Yamashita (Letters from Iwo Jima), actor James Kyson Lee (Heroes), and writer/producer Dean Devlin (Independence Day, The Patriot).

  • Asian Scene

    In collaboration with the DGA Asian American Committee and Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE), the WGAW Asian American Writers Committee will host a staged reading of 7 scenes from unproduced screenplays or teleplays by WGA members.  Scenes will be directed by DGA members. Hosted by CBS.

  • Digital Shorts Program

    Supports this already burgeoning trend by providing aspiring young filmmakers with a small grant and professional mentorship to actually write, produce, and direct their own short film!

  • Networking Mixers

    A series of strategically-scheduled cocktail mixers designed to help you connect with positive, like-minded individuals – and completely FREE for CAPE members.

  • Legacy Speaker Series

    Intimate one-on-one interviews a la Inside the Actors.

  • Holiday Soiree

    Our annual fundraiser to honor the groundbreaking talents and visionaries who have advanced APA diversity in front and behind the camera.

  • Voting and Candidacy Privileges in CAPE Elections

    Vote in the CAPE annual elections and run for the CAPE Board of Directors

The tax-deductible annual membership fee is $75 (this is fully tax deductable). A discounted student membership fee of $25 (application must be mailed in) is available to those who provide proof of current enrollment (such as a photocopy of your student I.D.).

Corporate membership fees are $300 annually and include membership for up to three individuals with email addresses.
